Monster Hunter Wilds introduces Focus Mode, for those moments when you absolutely must hit that Tigrex in its tender nethers-

Watch On

Good news, fans of repurposing dragons into your next pair of pants: Capcom has dropped a trio of short gameplay overviews for Monster Hunter Wilds, the follow-up to Monster Hunter: World which is due out in 2025. One video highlights the slow-moving, heavy-hitting Greatsword weapon type, while the second covers some basics of Monster Hunter gameplay, touching on the new Seikret mounts and improved arm-mounted Slinger. The third, meanwhile, has some real meat for Monster Hunter sickos, revealing Focus Mode: a new mechanic for precision-targeting attacks, highlighting monster weak points, and enabling new special moves.

Focus Mode, Capcom says, “allows you to carefully aim your attacks or guards.” In practice, it looks like an aiming mode you can seaml…

Hogwarts Legacy’s new last-gen port is actually prettier in some ways-

We all know that making games is very hard, but the truly unsung heroes of game development are the ones tasked with making new games run on older machines they were never designed for. Sometimes it goes surprisingly well, like Titanfall Xbox 360, and sometimes it’s so insurmountable that last-gen editions are cancelled entirely, like Gotham Knights.

One last-gen edition that seems to have gone over pretty well is Hogwarts Legacy, which just released its PS4 and Xbox One versions on May 5, three months after PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Some predictable concessions were made in contorting this 2023 open world sandbox (which had plenty of performance issues on PC at launch) to run on 2013 boxes, like lower-res textures and fewer decorations littering the walls of Hogwarts, b…

Nvidia’s RTX 4070 is out but what about AMD’s response–

Nvidia has rolled out its new RTX 4070 graphics card. Verily, it has proven pretty much what we expected. That is to say it’s a great card at a just about tolerable price. But what about AMD? Where are its competing GPUs based on the latest RDNA 3 architecture as seen in the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX?

As things stand, Nvidia currently has three actual GPUs based on its latest Ada Lovelace architecture. That’s the AD102 GPU in the RTX 4090, AD103 in the RTX 4080, and AD104 in the RTX 4070 Ti, as well as the newest-of-all RTX 4070. But what about AMD’s latest round of GPUs? That’ll be just one RDNA 3 GPU, Navi 31, as seen in both the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX.

Next up from AMD is expected to be Navi 32 which will form the basis of the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT. Officially, n…

Rumoured Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU with cheapo GDDR6 memory is now official-

We reported previously on the possibility that Nvidia might wheel out a revised version of its popular RTX 4070 graphics chipset with cheaper and slower GDDR6 memory. Now it’s been officially announced by Nvidia.

As Nick explained, the reason why this is happening at all is thought to be a short supply of the GDDR6X graphics memory used by the existing RTX 4070. Indeed, Nvidia’s announcement implies just that.

“To improve supply and availability to meet strong demand, we’re introducing the GeForce RTX 4070 with extra fast GDDR6 memory,” Nvidia said in a conspicuously short entry towards the bottom of a blog post (via Tom’s Hardware) that was mostly about the release of a new Game Ready driver with optimizations for Black Myth: Wukong and Star Wars Outlaws.

Six months after rebooting Prince of Persia- The Sands of Time Remake, Ubisoft says it’s coming along nicely- ‘The project has passed an important internal milestone’-

Is the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake a new Skull and Bones? I’m starting to think it might be. After multiple delays, a complete reboot, and a warning to fans not to expect to hear more about the game in 2023, Ubisoft has dropped a brief message reassuring everyone that it’s coming along nicely, and we’ll be hearing more about it at some undefined point in the future.

Look, I get it, making games isn’t easy—if it was, I’d be doing it. But even so, the Sands of Time remake seems to be a surprisingly tough struggle for Ubisoft. A planned release in early 2021 got bumped, and then bumped again, and then pretty much fell off the radar completely until a speculative 2023 launch came and then went.

Amidst all that, work was moved to a completely different …

I’m getting some tasty Skyrim and Dark Messiah vibes from this first-person action RPG-

If you like tromping around a fantasy world in first-person casting two-handed spells, whacking ogres and goblins with an ornate sword, and solving huge mechanical puzzles in mysterious chambers, here’s a game you might want to keep an eye on.

It’s called Testament: The Order of High Human and the trailer gives me quite a blend of vibes. A bit of Skyrim, a pinch of Elden Ring, a dash of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. (Just not with the budget attached to those massive games.)

IGN was kind enough to post a new trailer, which you can see above. There’s not a whole lot of gameplay shown, but it offers a nice look at some of the fantasy environments, enemies, and some tattooed, outstretched arms wrapped in leather bands preparing to cast some cool-looking spells.<…

Summer Game Fest will focus on existing games, so don’t hype yourself up for ‘games that are years and years out,’ says Geoff Keighley-

In the wake of E3’s demise, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has emerged as its self-appointed heir. SGF livestreams in years past have brought big reveals like 2021’s Elden Ring gameplay, and we should expect more of that kind of thing this year, according to Keighley: That is, trailers and announcements related to games we already know about, rather than earth-shattering reveals of unannounced games.

Keighley recently hopped onto a Twitch Q&A session for some “expectation setting” for this year’s presentation. According to Keighley, while the 2-hour showcase will have plenty of trailers to show, it’ll mostly consist of “existing games that have new updates for fans”—new content for released games, or trailers for games that have already been announced.

This ludicrously expensive gaming chair just became regular expensive-

Herman Miller is slashing the price of its uber-premium gaming chair, the Embody, down to a cool $1,356, thanks to a couple of promo codes on their website. We’ve only seen it this cheap during Black Friday when it was a few bucks less than what it’s being sold for now.

The Herman Miller x Logitech G Embody is similar design-wise to the classic Embody but with a few significant differences: The Logitech G branding, light blue accenting on the back of the chair, and an extra foam layer in the seat that provides additional tushy cooling. Sadly, there is no LED lighting built into this bad boy.

The main reason you’ll want to drop the big bucks on this chair is because it’s aggressively comfortable, no matter how you sit on it. In our review, we praised its ergonomics and …

Twitch changes its mind about nude art after just 48 hours- ‘We went too far’-

Twitch has taken back a rule change it made just two days ago. After seeing what some streamers did with the freedom to stream “artistic depictions of nudity,” the site said it “went too far.”

The change was one of several adjustments to Twitch’s policies on sexual content and nudity made on Wednesday, and lifted a ban on “drawn, animated, or sculpted” depictions of breasts and genitals. The adjustment was intended to permit Twitch’s community of visual artists to share their depictions of the human figure.

Some of the spicy streams that followed violated even the relaxed rules, says Twitch. (Depictions of “fictionalized sexual acts” were still prohibited, for example.) But some of the imagery that was allowed under the new guidelines was “met with community concern,” the co…

US gov fires a warning shot at Nvidia- ‘We cannot let China get these chips… If you redesign a chip that enables them to do AI, I’m going to control it the very next day’-

Nvidia’s penchant for redesigning its GPUs to get around US export restrictions has seemingly been directly called out by the US Commerce Secretary, with a warning that when such a redesign is created, “I’m going to control it the very next day.”

Since 2022, US chip sanctions have continued to make life somewhat difficult for manufacturers looking to export their products to certain countries, chief among them being China. However, that hasn’t stopped Nvidia from attempting to work its way around the export bans by releasing products that circumvent the current restrictions, introducing slightly redesigned models produced exclusively for the Chinese market.

It’s been an entertaining power play, but US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo appears to have had her fill of the…

Rainbow Six Siege fans roundly boo the announcement of a new monthly subscription service-

Rainbow Six Siege has been an ongoing success for Ubisoft for nearly a decade now, and shows no sign of slowing down—it was just in March, in fact, that the game set a new all-time concurrent player record on Steam of more than 201,000. But not everyone is thrilled with the weekend announcement of a new subscription service for Siege called R6 Membership, which promises exclusive content drops, animated skins, and premium battle pass access for $10 per month.

Siege’s upcoming year 9 season 2 will feature a “complete remaster” of the Recruit, the game’s original operator, which will get a new look and new attacker and defender archetypes that will enable two different gadgets to be selected depending on the chosen role. In lieu of a new operator, premium battle pass owners wi…

Windows 11’s new ‘AI’ Recall feature has been cracked to work without a fancy new NPU-

Microsoft’s newest AI tool, Recall, has been hitting the headlines that the Redmond software giant perhaps hasn’t quite intended. Part of a collection of features that only Copilot+ PCs sport, Recall also demands that the processor running the software has an NPU. However, one ingenious coder has already got it to work perfectly well on a basic PC that doesn’t have an NPU whatsoever.

The NPU, or neural processing unit, is the latest hardware bandwagon, with AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm all fighting to take ownership of the reins. Core Ultra, Ryzen 8040, and Snapdragon X processors all play host to a system of circuits that can handle the common operations used in AI routines.

One such application is Microsoft’s Recall feature in Copilot+ and it needs an NPU capable of 45 TOPs (t…

While everyone else is getting re-acquainted with Fallout, this maniac’s bolting hundreds of mods together to turn Fallout 4 into Resident Evil 5-

Fallout’s tagline may be “war never changes”, but don’t tell that to hero modder Quin. War has changed an awful lot in their Fallout world, which is now populated by zombies, dogs, and lickers, as well as being patrolled by the hunkiest version of Chris Redfield and a permanently irate Sheva Alomar. This is Fallout 4, except it’s Resident Evil 5.

Quin’s dedication to Fallout 4 is obvious from their YouTube channel, which has a boatload of videos showcasing various of the game’s mods, but the overall theme is definitely Resident Evil. The modder has produced videos showcasing Fallout 4 modded to resemble various entries in the series, including things like the Tyrant and R.P.D. building from Resident Evil 2, and “Fallout 4 but it’s Resident Evil 4 Remake.”

Xbox accused of being ‘woke’ for a deeply stupid reason-

Conservative politicians and commentators in the US are complaining that Xbox game consoles are now “woke” following an announcement earlier this month that Xbox Series X/S machines will be updated with an “Energy Saver” mode that reduces their power consumption when enabled.

This particular descent into partisan madness started on January 11, when Microsoft announced that the Xbox would be “the first gaming console to offer carbon aware game downloads and updates.” Simply put, it means that Xbox consoles will be capable of scheduling updates for times when the electrical grid is making use of lower-carbon sources of power.

It’s a smart idea—Microsoft said the new setting cuts power usage by up to 20 times compared to the regular sleep mode—and it’s actuall…
